Tuby

Tutorial : How to create a tree with Tuby and Imagine (Impulse Inc.)

Start Tuby, Click on the US button to show the english captions.
Set the Levels to 8.
Raise the Decli value to 70, so the branches will not go too high.
Raise the Azimut value to 50.
Raise the Radius value to 20, the trunk is now thicker.
Set the Rfactor to 0.7, the branches will not become too thin too quick.
Raise the Points value to 8, the chape of the trunc will be an octogon.
Click on the Compute button, the preview should show you something similar to this :

Choose another Random seed if the tree looks too bad. (above : 1689)
Save the object as trunc.dxf.
Uncheck the level 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Click on the Compute button, the preview should show you something similar to this :

Reduce the Points value to 4. So we will have less faces in this object.
Save the object as BaseLeaf.dxf.
That's all for Tuby.

Now start Imagine.
We will now create a group of the leafes.
Add an axis, use the Add lines tools and draw the shape of the leaf with few points.
Fill the chape with the Add Faces tool, move some point to get a curve shape.
You should have something like this. ( The grid is set to 100 units)

Make some copy of this object along the Y axis and turn each copy around Y axis.
Don't make the leafe group too compact.
Make some random transformation, to make the leafs group more real, vary size and alignment.
Pick the first object, pick all the other, Apply the Join Function.
Align the Axe only to 0,0,0.
You should have something like this :

Save this object as leafes.iob. Delete it.
Now we will build the trunc.
Use the Import DXF function from the menu.
Choose the trunc.dxf Object. Hit OK on all the import requester.
Add a circle of 16 points, 20 radius size, delete the middle point.
Rotate all the point of 90 degres around X axis.
In Pick object mode, move the circle 200 unit under the trunc object axis.
Pick the trunc object in multi mode (shift key).
Join the 2 objects.
In Pick edge mode, select all the edges of the cicle. Make an Edge line. (fig A)
Select the edges of the base of the trunc. (fig B)
Apply the Fill function.(fig C)

Switch to Pick group mode.
Set the Attributes for this object, color and texture.
Now use the Import DXF to load the BaseLeaf.dxf file.
Pick the object and choose the Particle function from the Function menu.
The particle requester shows now. Choose filename as Particle type and Browse to the leafs.iob file.
Select To faces in Alignment.
Select Specify in Sizing
Type 10 as Particle size.
Hit OK button.
Now set the Attributes for the leafs.
Make a Quickrender.

Adjust the size of the particle.
If you have to many leafs, then use the reduce point functions on the BaseLeaf object.
You can also cut some branches or add details to the trunc, add roots...
